India has sought long-term investment from Singapore in power transmission, pumped storage, battery energy storage and renewable energy projects to strengthen its energy infrastructure, the Ministry of Power said in a press release issued through the Press Information Bureau (PIB).
The proposal was discussed during a bilateral meeting between Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik and Singapore’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Energy and Trade and Industry Gan Siow Huang on the sidelines of the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2026, held from October 26 to 28.
Naik invited Singaporean investors to explore opportunities in India’s power sector, including transmission infrastructure, pumped storage projects, battery storage and renewable energy, the Ministry of Power said.
The two sides also discussed energy cooperation under the India-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including a proposed cross-border electricity interconnection between the countries.
Other areas of potential cooperation included green hydrogen and ammonia, energy efficiency, and partnerships between Indian power equipment manufacturers and Singaporean utilities.
Naik, who led the Indian delegation to SIEW 2026, also highlighted India’s progress in renewable energy. He said the country’s installed electricity capacity stood at 558.9 GW as of September 30, 2026, with non-fossil sources accounting for 308 GW, or 55% of the total.
India achieved 50% non-fossil installed capacity in June 2025, five years ahead of its 2030 target, and is now working towards 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030.
During the visit, Naik also toured Sembcorp’s 326 MWh battery energy storage facility on Jurong Island, the largest utility-scale battery storage system in Singapore and Southeast Asia, and Keppel’s 800-tonne-per-day, 22 MW waste-to-energy plant.
The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral energy cooperation and encourage greater international participation in India’s power and renewable energy sectors.
