South Korea’s Airrane showcases biogas upgrading technology in Europe

South Korean gas separation membrane specialist Airrane is seeking to expand its biogas upgrading business in Europe after presenting its technology at a renewable gas exhibition in Spain, Seoul Economic Daily reported.

The company said on October 7 that it participated in the Salón del Gas Renovable 2026 in Valladolid, Spain, on September 29 and 30, where it showcased its biogas upgrading solutions.

The business-to-business exhibition covers technologies, equipment, plant construction and other parts of the renewable gas value chain, including biogas and biomethane. It brings together renewable gas technology companies, investors, policymakers and global businesses looking to enter the European market.

Airrane showcased Meritair, its new biogas upgrading product, along with related technology. Biogas upgrading removes impurities such as carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide and increases the methane content of biogas, allowing it to be converted into high-purity renewable natural gas (RNG).

The upgraded biomethane can be used for city gas supply and power generation. It can also be used as a feedstock for hydrogen production after reforming.

Airrane has developed an overseas track record through biogas projects in China, Brazil and Malaysia. The company plans to use the European exhibition to build partnerships with engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies and operations and maintenance (O&M) providers and expand its business in the region.

The company currently operates a gas separation membrane business for nitrogen generation and is expanding its technology into clean energy applications, including biogas upgrading and carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS).

“ This fair allowed us to introduce Airrane’s biogas upgrading technology and new product to the European market,” Chief Executive Ha Sung-yong said. “We will strengthen cooperation with European EPC and O&M firms going forward and continue to expand our biogas upgrading business.”
