Dutch biofuel company Sunoil Biodiesel has received regulatory clearance to supply its sustainable fuel products in Belgium, opening another European market for the company, biofuels international reported.
With the approval, Belgium has joined the growing number of European countries where Sunoil can sell its biodiesel made from waste materials.
The company said expansion into a new country requires systems that can track products properly, meet sustainability standards and comply with local rules at every stage of the supply chain. Sunoil said these measures provide a strong base for its continued expansion across Europe.
The approval comes as the company increases its operations and expands the use of its biodiesel in transport. Sunoil’s inland barge Birjo II has recently been converted to operate completely on B100 biodiesel. The fuel is produced in the Netherlands and supplied through a partnership with BFT Tanker Logistics.
Birjo II is now transporting biofuel using 100% renewable fuel, providing an example of how Sunoil’s biodiesel can be used in transport to reduce emissions.
Sunoil produces biodiesel from certified waste oils and fats at its facilities in Emmen and Kampen. The company also operates a trading business in Amsterdam.
Its biodiesel is used as an alternative to fossil-based diesel or mixed with fossil diesel for use in road transport, shipping and the energy sector.
