OIL Green Energy (OGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Oil India Ltd (OIL), has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with four municipalities in Haryana to develop integrated Compressed Biogas (CBG) and Waste-to-Energy projects, Business Standard reported.
The MoUs were signed with the municipalities of Gurugram, Faridabad, Hisar and Ambala, covering four waste-processing clusters across the state.
The proposed projects will be developed at Hisar with a capacity of 500 tonnes per day (TPD), Ambala 900 TPD, Faridabad 1,600 TPD and Gurugram 2,000 TPD. Together, the facilities are planned to process 5,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste per day.
The projects are expected to generate CBG and around 50 MW of green power through an integrated waste-processing model.
Under the proposed system, municipal solid waste will undergo scientific pre-processing and segregation to maximise resource recovery. Recyclable materials will be separated for recovery, while the wet and biodegradable fraction will be used to produce CBG.
The non-recyclable dry fraction will be utilised in Waste-to-Energy facilities to generate electricity.
OGEL said the integrated approach is designed to maximise recovery of useful resources from municipal waste while improving energy recovery from non-recyclable material.
The projects are also expected to reduce dependence on landfills by diverting municipal solid waste towards productive use and converting different waste fractions into clean energy, including CBG and green electricity.
