The Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) has approved DKK 182 million (about €24 million) in long-term financing to support the expansion of the Sindal Biogas plant in northern Denmark.
The 13-year loan will help double the plant’s annual biomethane production capacity from 22 million cubic metres to 44 million cubic metres, Bioenergy News reported.
The expansion project also includes the option to install carbon dioxide (CO₂) capture technology, which could enable permanent storage of biogenic CO₂ emissions or supply captured carbon for Power-to-X projects.
Once upgraded, the facility will be capable of processing up to 800,000 tonnes of agricultural and industrial waste each year, making it one of Denmark’s largest biogas plants.
The project is owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ Advanced Bioenergy Fund I in partnership with KK Invest and DBC Invest.
According to NIB, the investment supports Denmark’s goal of achieving a fully renewable gas supply in its national gas grid while reducing dependence on imported natural gas.
The financing also qualifies under the InvestEU Clean Energy Transition Framework, which supports projects aimed at accelerating the shift to low-carbon energy systems.
