The Delhi government on Friday launched the Delhi Electric Vehicle (EV) Subsidy Portal, introducing financial incentives of up to ₹1 lakh to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles and reduce pollution in the national capital.
Launching the portal, Rekha Gupta said the new EV Policy was a crucial step in addressing the city’s rising pollution levels, with vehicular emissions accounting for nearly 23 per cent of total pollution, ANI reported.
Under the policy, buyers of electric two-wheelers will receive a subsidy of ₹30,000, while electric three-wheelers will be eligible for ₹50,000. A subsidy of ₹1 lakh has been announced for N1 category light commercial electric vehicles.
The government has also exempted all electric cars priced below ₹30 lakh from road tax and registration fees. In addition, scrappage incentives will be provided to owners replacing old internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles with new electric vehicles.
Speaking at the launch, Gupta said the policy was long overdue and forms part of a broader strategy to tackle pollution from multiple sources, including dust, vehicular emissions and tree plantation.
She said the policy adopts a comprehensive approach by addressing not only electric vehicle adoption but also future challenges such as EV waste management. The government has already initiated preparations for setting up an e-waste recycling facility to support the growing number of electric vehicles.
The newly launched portal will allow individuals and institutions to apply online for EV subsidies and other benefits without visiting government offices.
Applicants will be able to upload documents such as Aadhaar, vehicle registration certificates and voter identity cards online, while institutions can submit GSTIN, PAN and bank account details through the portal.
The government said the application process will be fully digital and paperless. Eligible beneficiaries will receive subsidy payments directly into their bank accounts through Aadhaar-authenticated Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), with incentives to be disbursed within a maximum period of 60 days after document verification.
The portal will also provide information on eligibility criteria, approved electric vehicle models, subsidy details, required documents and application procedures under the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2026.
