POWERGRID floats tender for 400 kV substation to support green hydrogen and green ammonia projects

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has invited bids for the development of a 400 kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) in Tamil Nadu’s Tuticorin region, a key infrastructure project aimed at supporting upcoming green hydrogen and green ammonia investments.

The proposed facility, named 400 kV GIS Substation Package SS 104T, forms part of a broader transmission network being planned to meet the power requirements of large-scale green energy and green fuel projects in the region, Solarquarter reported.

The bidding process is being conducted under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework. POWERGRID has initiated the tender before submitting its own Request for Proposal (RfP) to the Bid Process Coordinator, a move intended to strengthen its participation in the competitive process for developing, owning and operating the transmission system.

Classified as an open works contract in the power and energy sector, the project is open to eligible domestic and international bidders. Interested companies can participate through POWERGRID’s electronic procurement platform, the PRANIT Portal, under RFX Number 5002005453.

According to the tender schedule, the sale of tender documents and online bid submission began on June 5, 2026. Interested bidders can purchase and download the tender documents until June 20, 2026.

Technical and financial bids must be submitted through the online portal by 11:00 a.m. on June 22, 2026. Bid opening is scheduled for the same day at 11:30 a.m., following which the evaluation process will commence.

POWERGRID has not prescribed any tender fee for participation, and bidders are not required to submit an Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) at this stage. Details regarding the Performance Bank Guarantee (PBG) will be outlined in the commercial documents and will follow the company’s standard procurement guidelines.

The tender is being managed through POWERGRID’s corporate office in Gurugram, Haryana. The company expects the project to play an important role in strengthening the transmission infrastructure needed to support the rapid growth of India’s green hydrogen and green ammonia sectors.

With Tamil Nadu emerging as a major destination for renewable energy investments, the proposed substation is expected to help ensure reliable power evacuation and grid connectivity for future clean-energy projects in the Tuticorin region.
