Punjab’s bioenergy sector is set for a major boost as Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) moves ahead with plans to establish biogas plants across the state, a development Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said will help manage agricultural waste, generate employment and support economic growth.
The chief minister made the remarks after meeting HPCL Chairman and Managing Director Vikas Kaushal in Chandigarh to discuss investments in Punjab’s energy and petroleum sectors, India Today reported.
According to an official statement, HPCL is setting up 10 biogas plants across Punjab, with five already operational.
Mann said the projects would play an important role in managing agricultural waste, including crop residue, while providing benefits to farmers and supporting environmental sustainability.
He noted that HPCL’s interest in expanding investments in refinery and biogas projects reflects growing confidence in Punjab as an investment destination. The chief minister said these projects are expected to stimulate economic activity and generate new employment opportunities for the state’s youth.
Mann assured HPCL of the state government’s full support in facilitating its projects and reaffirmed Punjab’s commitment to attracting investment and encouraging industrial growth.
In a post on X, the chief minister said discussions focused on new opportunities in the energy and petroleum sectors, accelerating industrial investments and creating jobs for young people in Punjab.
He added that the government is working continuously to position Punjab among the country’s leading destinations for industry and investment, expressing confidence that such collaborations will contribute significantly to the state’s economic development in the years ahead.
