Bioenergy, green hydrogen key to India’s energy plans amid global tensions: Shaktikanta Das

New Delhi: Shaktikanta Das, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and former RBI Governor on Monday said bioenergy and green hydrogen will remain central to the government’s strategy as India works to strengthen energy security and economic stability amid rising global tensions.

Speaking at the CII Annual Business Summit 2026, Das said India’s economic strength continues to rest on stable financial conditions. He noted that the government’s fiscal position and the banking system remain strong despite global uncertainties, Sarkaritel reported.

He added that corporate balance sheets are in a better position to support new investments and reiterated the government’s focus on continuing reforms.

However, Das cautioned that rising tensions involving the United States and Iran, along with supply disruptions, are likely to keep global costs high and affect economies worldwide.

His remarks came a day after Prime Minister Modi urged citizens to take steps to reduce pressure on the economy amid the ongoing West Asia crisis. He advised people to work from home where possible, avoid unnecessary gold purchases and limit foreign travel for a year.

The Prime Minister also called for reduced use of cooking oil, imported goods and chemical fertilisers to help conserve foreign exchange and manage fuel import costs during volatile energy conditions.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the government is taking steps to reduce the impact of global developments. He chaired the fifth meeting of the Informal Empowered Group of Ministers to review risks to energy supply and assess the availability of essential commodities in the country.
