Godavari Biorefineries to commission maize-based ethanol plant in North Karnataka this quarter

Godavari Biorefineries Ltd expects to commission its grain and maize-based ethanol facility in North Karnataka during the current quarter, as part of the company’s broader effort to diversify its feedstock base, The Hindu Businessline reported.

Samir Somaiya, Chairman and Managing Director of Godavari Biorefineries Ltd, said the new facility would add approximately 2 lakh litres per day of ethanol production capacity. The plant will be co-located with the company’s existing sugar and ethanol manufacturing operations in North Karnataka, and will take its total daily ethanol capacity from around 6 lakh litres to nearly 8 lakh litres once commissioned.

On an annualised basis, Somaiya said ethanol output was expected to rise from approximately 10 crore litres to around 16 crore litres following the start of commercial operations at the new facility. The company has invested approximately Rs 130 crore in the maize and grain-based ethanol plant.
