Over 26 lakh households have benefited from the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana as of December 2025, Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply on Tuesday.
The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a demand-driven programme that allows residential consumers with grid-connected electricity from their local DISCOM to install rooftop solar systems by applying through the scheme’s national portal.
Since its launch in February 2024, 20,85,514 rooftop solar systems have been installed across the country, benefiting 26,14,446 households. Central Financial Assistance amounting to Rs 14,771.82 crore has been disbursed up to December 2025, the minister said, adding that state and Union Territory-wise progress details are provided in the annexure.
The scheme estimates that installing rooftop solar systems in one crore households could generate 1,000 billion units of renewable electricity and reduce 720 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emissions over the 25-year lifespan of the systems.
