Tata Projects chosen as EPC partner for sustainable aviation fuel plant in Middle East

Tata Projects Limited has been selected as the engineering, procurement and construction partner for a sustainable aviation fuel project in the Middle East by SAF One Energy Management Limited, the companies said in a statement.

The project will produce sustainable aviation fuel using used cooking oil and other waste oils and fats. It is aimed at supporting efforts to cut emissions from aviation by reducing reliance on traditional fossil-based jet fuel. The development is also a key step in SAF One’s plan to build a global network of sustainable aviation fuel facilities, including a proposed plant in India.

Under the agreement, Tata Projects will be responsible for delivering the full project, using a standardized and scalable approach. The company will rely on repeatable designs, modern construction methods and modular execution to improve timelines, manage costs and allow similar facilities to be built more quickly in other locations.

The plant will use established processing technologies for preparing raw materials and converting them into fuel. It is designed to handle different types of waste-based feedstock and meet international standards for sustainable aviation fuel. Tata Projects’ scope includes overall coordination, design development focused on ease of construction, and preparation for execution of what is described as the first facility of its kind in the region.

Rajiv Menon, President and Chief Operating Officer for the Energy and Industrial business at Tata Projects, said sustainable aviation fuel is one of the fastest ways to reduce emissions from flying. He said the partnership reflects a shared goal of building efficient and repeatable fuel facilities, adding that the company aims to help speed up the rollout of such projects worldwide through disciplined delivery and modular construction.

Deepak Munganahalli, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of SAF One, said the company was pleased to work with Tata Projects on the project. He said Tata Projects’ experience in delivering complex energy facilities under a fixed-price turnkey model, along with its focus on safety and standardised execution, fits well with SAF One’s strategy of developing a common design that can be replicated across multiple locations.

The partnership strengthens Tata Projects’ role in supporting energy transition initiatives, with a focus on projects that combine environmental goals with reliable execution. Tata Projects and SAF One are also in discussions on developing a sustainable aviation fuel facility in India, highlighting their shared focus on building future-ready fuel infrastructure in fast-growing aviation markets.
