Neste has supplied sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to Emirates for flights departing from Singapore Changi Airport. This marks Emirates as the first international visiting carrier to utilize SAF sourced from Neste’s Singapore refinery at the airport. Over the past few weeks, more than 2,600 tons (equivalent to 3.3 million liters) of blended SAF have been introduced into Changi Airport’s fueling system to meet Emirates’ requirements.
The SAF supply to Emirates at Changi Airport is a part of the collaboration between the two companies, which was announced in October 2023. Previously, Neste had delivered over 6,000 tons of blended SAF to Emirates at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol earlier this year.
Adel Al Redha, Deputy President, and Chief Operating Officer at Emirates, commented, “Emirates’ investment in Neste-produced SAF in Singapore marks our initial step in SAF adoption in Asia, a region poised to become a leading supplier of SAF, which remains scarce. While this agreement activation represents a significant milestone in our SAF journey in a new region, there’s still much groundwork ahead. As we secure SAF for the short term, we’re actively pursuing long-term agreements to support the consistent supply of SAF for our operations.”
Alexander Kueper, Vice President of Renewable Aviation Business at Neste, expressed enthusiasm about Emirates’ commencement of using Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel at Changi Airport, heralding it as the latest development in their partnership. He highlighted Emirates as the inaugural international visiting carrier to employ SAF produced at Neste’s Singapore refinery and delivered to the airport through their integrated supply chain. Kueper affirmed their commitment to further collaborate in scaling up SAF supply for Emirates’ operations.
