Uttam Distilleries to expand ethanol capacity from 40 KLPD to 160 KLPD

Uttam Distilleries Limited (UDL), a subsidiary of Uttam Sugar Mills Limited, has received approval from its Board of Directors to expand its distillery capacity from the current 40 KLPD (kilo litres per day) to 160 KLPD.

At present, the distillery is operating at a robust 95% capacity utilization. The expansion, with an estimated investment of Rs. 110 crore, is slated for completion by March 2027. The funding will come from a combination of internal accruals, promoter contributions, and external borrowings.

Uttam Sugar Mills operates in the production of sugar, ethanol, and co-generated power. The expansion aligns with the Indian government’s push for ethanol blending in fuel, a move aimed at promoting eco-friendly alternatives and reducing the nation’s dependency on imported fuels.
