Wabtec to launch diesel engine production outside the United States in Kazakhstan

As part of a working visit to the United States, a delegation from Kazakhstan Temir Zholy National Company JSC, led by Chairman of the Management Board Talgat Aldybergenov, visited the production facilities of Wabtec, a global leader in locomotive manufacturing, in Grove City, Pennsylvania.

The Grove City plant specializes in the production and overhaul of diesel engines for locomotives and heavy equipment. The KTZ delegation learned about modern technologies, including the use of alternative fuels, powertrain modernization processes, and digital monitoring and quality control systems.

Particular attention was paid to energy efficiency, emission reduction, and the implementation of innovative solutions, key areas in the development of KTZ’s rolling stock. Following the meeting, Wabtec confirmed plans to launch production of new diesel engines at the Astana Diesel Service plant in 2026, the first engine production outside the United States. For Kazakhstan, this will be an important step in developing localization and increasing the industry’s technological independence.

The parties also discussed deepening cooperation in technology transfer, personnel training, and technical support for the locomotive fleet. The visit marked a significant step in strengthening the partnership and confirmed KTZ’s commitment to implementing international practices in the development of the country’s transport infrastructure.
