Dhordo village, located in Gujarat’s Kutch district and internationally recognised by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) as a ‘Best Tourism Village’, has reached a new milestone by becoming fully solar-powered. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially dedicate this achievement to the nation on September 20 during the ‘Samudra Se Samriddhi’ event in Bhavnagar.
With this transformation, Dhordo becomes the fourth village in Gujarat to go fully solar, joining Modhera (Mehsana), Sukhi (Kheda), and Masali (Banaskantha), further highlighting the state’s growing leadership in clean and sustainable energy.
The transition was made possible under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, through which every residential electricity connection in the village has been solarised. A total of 81 homes have been fitted with rooftop solar panels, adding 177 kilowatts of capacity. This system is expected to generate around 2.95 lakh units of electricity each year, resulting in an estimated annual benefit of ₹16,064 per household. In addition to lowering electricity bills, villagers will also earn by supplying surplus power to the grid. Combined savings and income are projected to exceed ₹13 lakh per year for the village.
Dhordo’s Sarpanch, Miyan Hussain, commented, “Although Dhordo is a remote village, it has witnessed remarkable development under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel. With solar rooftops now installed in every home, electricity bills will be significantly reduced, offering major relief to our residents. Thanks to government subsidies and bank loans, the financial burden on villagers has been minimal. This initiative has brought great happiness to our community.”
Dhordo’s success marks a new benchmark in sustainable development, reinforcing Gujarat’s commitment to renewable energy and a greener future.
