Fortis Energy has announced the addition of the Çobanlar Biogas Power Plant to its renewable energy projects. The plant is located in Afyon, Türkiye, and has been running since 2021. It is now part of the company’s growing efforts to produce clean energy, reports Bioenergy Insight.
Each year, the Çobanlar plant processes about 100,000 tonnes of waste from farms and animals. It uses this waste to generate over 26 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, helping supply the region with a steady source of renewable power. The plant also helps manage waste in an effective and environmentally friendly way.
Along with electricity, the plant produces organic fertiliser as a by-product. This fertiliser is shared with farmers in the area, helping improve soil quality and reducing the need for chemical fertilisers. This step supports Fortis Energy’s goal of protecting the environment and promoting better farming practices.
With the addition of the Çobanlar facility, Fortis Energy now operates five biogas power plants—four in Türkiye and one in Serbia. Together, these plants have a total power capacity of more than 21 megawatts and produce over 190 million kilowatt-hours of electricity every year. These efforts are helping reduce pollution and support the move toward cleaner energy sources.
