F&B Bio Recyclage launches groundbreaking waste-to-sustainable aviation fuel project

F&B Bio Recyclage Ltd, a project development company based in Ghana, has announced the launch of a pioneering initiative to convert municipal solid waste into Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This milestone project reflects the company’s strong focus on sustainability and its commitment to lowering the aviation industry’s carbon emissions.

With the growing global demand for air travel, the need for cleaner, more sustainable fuel alternatives has become increasingly urgent. The Waste-to-SAF initiative will employ advanced gasification and Fischer-Tropsch technology to convert non-recyclable waste into high-grade SAF, offering a greener alternative to conventional jet fuel and contributing to significant carbon emission reductions.

“This marks an important step in both waste management and sustainable aviation,” said Frederick Opoku Agyekum, Project Development Director at F&B Bio Recyclage. “By turning waste into a valuable resource, we’re tackling two environmental challenges at once—managing waste and reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.”

The project will be developed in collaboration with strategic partners, including technology providers, waste management firms, and players in the aviation sector. The initial stages will include a standardized Pre-FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) study to assess the technical and financial feasibility of the proposed solution. A full FEED engineering phase will follow, leading up to a final investment decision and eventual construction.

Key benefits of the project:

Waste Reduction: Helps divert large volumes of waste from landfills, supporting a circular economy.

Cleaner Fuel Supply: Offers a sustainable alternative to fossil-based jet fuels, cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

Economic Development: Creates green jobs and opens up opportunities for innovation and growth in the renewable energy sector.

This initiative is in line with F&B’s long-term sustainability objectives and supports global efforts to decarbonize aviation. The company remains committed to exploring cutting-edge solutions that contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future for air travel.
