Noida to see 500 electric buses for sustainable urban transport

Greater Noida, the Yamuna Expressway area, and surrounding cities are set to see the introduction of 500 electric buses through a new company called GBN Green Transport Limited. This Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) has been created specifically to oversee and manage the project, reported The Economic Times.

The company’s leadership will include four directors: the CEOs of the Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna authorities, along with the head of the Noida Traffic Cell. Additionally, seven subscribers, comprising the Additional Chief Executives (ACEOs) of the three authorities, will be part of the entity.

Officials have confirmed that the registration process for the SPV is moving quickly, with the first board meeting expected shortly. The entire electric bus initiative will be carried out under GBN Green Transport Limited, which was the name officially approved by the state government after considering three options, including NGY Urban Mobility Service and GBN Easy Ride Service.

The project forms part of a larger effort to upgrade public transportation and decrease reliance on private vehicles, promoting cleaner and more sustainable mobility.

Currently, surveys are underway in sectors 82 and 90 of Noida to determine the infrastructure needed for bus depots.
