Vietnam hosts first SAF summit to boost green aviation and fuel production

Vietnam has hosted its first international summit on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), bringing together policymakers and industry leaders in Da Nang to strengthen cooperation on green aviation and regional fuel production.

The three-day event, the Asia SAF Association Innovation & Policy Summit Vietnam 2026, was held from May 6 to 8 and saw participation from around 70 organisations. These included government representatives, airlines, fuel producers, financial institutions and technology providers, Asian Aviation reported.

During the summit, the Asia SAF Association signed two agreements with Vietnamese government bodies to support the development of the country’s SAF sector.

One agreement with the Agency for Innovation Green Transition and Industry Promotion under the Ministry of Industry and Trade focuses on capacity building, technical knowledge sharing and policy support. Another agreement with the Da Nang Innovation Startup Support Centre aims to position Da Nang as a hub for SAF innovation through training programmes, events and collaboration with experts.

Fabrice Espinosa, founder and chief executive of ASAFA, said Vietnam has the key conditions needed to build a strong SAF ecosystem and play a leading role in the sector.

Since its launch in 2024, ASAFA has expanded to include 44 organisations across 17 countries, becoming a key platform for SAF advocacy in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Vietnam summit is the first in a series of three planned by ASAFA this year, with upcoming events scheduled in Thailand in June and Malaysia in October.
