In a significant boost to India’s electric mobility research ecosystem, Tezpur University has entered into a partnership with Hyundai Motor Company to strengthen research and innovation in electric vehicles, battery technologies and sustainable mobility solutions.
The collaboration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under the Hyundai Centre of Excellence (HCoE), making Tezpur University the first central university in India to establish a research partnership of this nature with Hyundai, Shiksha reported.
The Hyundai Centre of Excellence is designed to serve as an innovation platform connecting the automaker with Indian academic institutions to develop future mobility technologies. Research activities under the partnership will focus on electric vehicles, battery management systems, energy storage technologies and sustainable transportation solutions.
As part of the collaboration, Hyundai Motor Company plans to invest approximately ₹16.37 crore in the university’s research programmes. The funding is expected to enhance research capabilities and provide access to industry expertise from one of the world’s leading automobile manufacturers.
The partnership aims to address practical challenges related to electric vehicle efficiency, battery performance and safety while encouraging industry-academia collaboration in emerging mobility technologies.
Officials said the initiative will also help create opportunities for students and researchers by linking academic research with industry requirements, enabling them to contribute to the growing transition towards sustainable transportation.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen Tezpur University’s research ecosystem and support the development of next-generation technologies in the rapidly evolving electric mobility sector.
