Sistema.bio takes top spot in African biogas

Sistema.bio has expanded its biodigester technology solutions into West and Southern Africa, positioning itself as Africa’s largest biodigester company. Established in 2010, the company employs and contracts over 2,500 people.

With operations in 31 countries, Sistema.bio’s initial African presence included Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Ethiopia. The recent expansion now covers Malawi, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Ghana, and Nigeria.

The company has installed more than 12,000 biodigesters, providing clean and reliable energy to over 100,000 people across Sub-Saharan Africa. Sistema.bio has partnered with Engie Access, Africa’s leading off-grid energy services provider, to introduce biogas digesters in Zambia and Mozambique.

This partnership, which also includes support from the Modern Clean Cooking Facility for Africa (MCFA), aims to reach over 10,000 smallholder farmers in these countries. The initiative seeks to offer clean cooking biogas solutions, enhancing energy security and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the region.
