Pertamina Patra Niaga achieves first SAF certification in Southeast Asia

PT Pertamina Patra Niaga has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability by earning the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) for both the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) and the Renewable Energy Directive-European Union (RED-EU). This achievement represents a significant advancement in the supply of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in Southeast Asia and solidifies Pertamina Patra Niaga’s role as a leader in the aviation industry’s efforts to reduce global carbon emissions, reported The Jakarta Post.

As per media report, Maya Kusmaya, Marketing Director of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Central and Commerce Division, highlighted that this certification underscores the company’s dedication to advancing environmentally friendly fuels. “With this certification, Pertamina Patra Niaga is the first operator in Southeast Asia to offer ISCC CORSIA certified SAF. This milestone opens up new opportunities for airlines in Indonesia and the surrounding regions to utilize fuel that significantly cuts their carbon footprint,” Maya explained.

The certification was presented by PT Qualitas Sertifikat Indonesia CEO Ryanza Prasetya to Maya Kusmaya, and the event was attended by PT Pertamina’s Strategy, Portfolio, and Business Development Director Salyadi Saputra on August 19 in Jakarta. The certificate was awarded during the event “Paving the Way to Net-Zero: HVO & SAF,” hosted by Pertamina.

Maya also noted that the certification enables customers to claim carbon emission reductions from SAF products produced by Pertamina. “With ISCC certification for SAF products, as well as used cooking oil (UCO) and hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) from Pertamina, customers can now make claims regarding the carbon emission reductions achieved through these fuels,” she added.

The Ngurah Rai Aviation Fuel Terminal (AFT) in Bali and the Soekarno-Hatta Aviation Fuel Terminal & Hydrant Installation (SHAFTHI) in Jakarta were the first facilities to receive ISCC CORSIA and ISCC EU certification. AFT Ngurah Rai is strategically positioned to support the Bali International Air Show 2024, which is expected to increase the use of Pertamina SAF in the international aviation market.

“Pertamina Patra Niaga remains dedicated to leading in innovation and sustainability, positioning itself as a key partner for airlines in achieving a greener and more sustainable future,” Maya concluded.
