Hyderabad: Osmania University on Monday introduced an electric three-wheeler vehicle to transport food waste from campus hostels to the Mahalaxmi Biogas Plant located on the Ladies Hostel premises, reports The Hans India.
The eco-friendly vehicle was officially handed over to the Director of the Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation Studies by Vice-Chancellor Professor M. Kumar.
University officials said the biogas plant, established last year, processes up to two tons of food waste per day. The project was developed with corporate social responsibility (CSR) support from KPMG and implemented by NGO SAAHAS in partnership with Ahuja Engineering Services.
With the plant already running at full capacity, the addition of the electric vehicle is expected to streamline the waste collection process and ensure the efficient and sustainable transfer of kitchen and food waste across the campus.
