State-owned Oil India Limited (OIL) and its wholly owned subsidiary OIL Green Energy Ltd (OGEL) have partnered with Hindustan Waste Treatment Pvt Ltd (HWT) to develop bioenergy and sustainable waste management projects across the country.
The collaboration will see the formation of a new joint venture company, with OGEL and HWT holding equal stakes. The venture will focus on opportunities in compressed biogas (CBG), waste-to-energy projects and other sustainable infrastructure initiatives that support India’s clean energy and circular economy goals, Construction World reported.
The development was disclosed through a stock exchange filing by Oil India.
OGEL was established to spearhead OIL’s expansion into renewable and green energy businesses, including compressed biogas and other emerging clean energy segments. Hindustan Waste Treatment, a wholly owned subsidiary of SFC Environmental Technologies Ltd, specialises in biogas technologies and has expertise in the design, engineering, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance of municipal solid waste-based bioenergy projects.
According to the companies, HWT has been operating a municipal solid waste-based biogas plant in North Goa for more than a decade, providing extensive experience in the sector.
The new joint venture plans to explore integrated waste-to-energy and resource recovery projects in suitable locations across India. The initiative is expected to support the country’s objectives of energy self-reliance and sustainable development by converting waste into valuable energy resources.
The partners said the venture will combine OGEL’s access to energy-sector networks with HWT’s technological and operational expertise to develop scalable projects capable of attracting investment and accelerating the deployment of sustainable infrastructure.
The agreement forms part of Oil India’s broader strategy to diversify beyond conventional energy and strengthen its presence in renewable energy businesses. The company believes the partnership will contribute to India’s clean energy transition while advancing circular economy objectives and improving waste management solutions at the local level.
Through the joint venture, the partners aim to expand bioenergy production, promote efficient resource recovery and create projects that align with national efforts to increase renewable energy generation and reduce dependence on conventional fuels.
