Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to waive permit fees for battery-operated electric vehicles and transport vehicles powered by methanol and ethanol as part of efforts to promote cleaner transportation in the state, OMMCOM News reported.
Under a notification issued by the Commerce and Transport Department, eligible vehicles will be issued the required permits by transport authorities without payment of any permit fee.
The exemption, however, will not apply to goods transport vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of less than 3,000 kg.
The department said the fee waiver does not remove the requirement to obtain a permit under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Vehicle owners will still have to obtain the necessary permits from the relevant transport authorities.
Other legal requirements will also continue to apply. These include valid vehicle registration, insurance, fitness certification, pollution under control (PUC) certification, and payment of applicable government taxes and other charges.
The Odisha government expects the move to encourage greater use of electric and cleaner-fuel vehicles and help reduce vehicular pollution across the state.
