Nepal made much progress in terms of devising policy on mixing ethanol in petroleum products: Minister

Damodar Bhandari, Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, has announced significant progress in the development of a policy for blending ethanol with petroleum products, reported My republica.

Speaking at the ‘Extensive Debate on Mixing Ethanol in Petroleum Products’ event organized by the Nepal Association of Financial Journalists (NAFIJ) in the capital on Monday, Minister Bhandari highlighted that the government has made substantial strides in formulating the ‘ethanol mixing policy’.

“The Regulations Related to Mixing Ethanol in Petroleum Products have already been established. We are now finalizing the pricing, which we expect to resolve within a month,” he said. He added that the government has issued directives and made necessary policy arrangements to the Nepal Oil Corporation to proceed with the initiative aimed at reducing daily consumption of 200,000 kilolitres of petroleum products through ethanol production.

As per media report, Minister Bhandari also noted that ethanol production will not only reduce petroleum consumption but also create job opportunities within the country.
