Gentari Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian clean energy firm and a subsidiary of the state-owned Petronas Group, is keen to enter India’s emerging green hydrogen market and aims to contribute up to 20 per cent of the country’s production, according to Navjit Gill, the company’s Country Head, in an interview with Moneycontrol.
The company is assessing plans to develop green hydrogen and ammonia projects in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
Gill stated, “If we can achieve a contribution of around 20 per cent of the National Hydrogen Green Mission by 2030, producing up to 1 million tonnes of green hydrogen, it would be a well-aligned contribution.”
India’s Green Hydrogen Mission aims to position the country as a leading global producer and supplier of green hydrogen. The mission targets establishing a green hydrogen production capacity of at least 5 million metric tonnes (MMT) per year, supported by approximately 125 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
Currently, the installed capacity for green hydrogen production is limited and primarily consists of pilot projects. However, ongoing projects, government policies, and investments by major industry players are expected to drive substantial growth in the sector.
Gentari is also working on a green hydrogen project with Greenko in Andhra Pradesh. Additionally, Gill mentioned that the company is exploring further initiatives in hydrogen and ammonia in the southern states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, reported Money Control.
