Malaysia: TH Plantation partners with Cenergi to undertake development, construction and operations of biogas power plant

TH Plantation Bhd has teamed up with Cenergi SEA Bhd for the development, construction, and operation of a 1.2 megawatts (MW) biogas power plant in Kluang, Johor.

The project will be carried out as a joint venture between THP Applications & Services Sdn Bhd and Cenergi RE Sdn Bhd.

According to TH Plantation CEO Mohamed Zainurin Mohamed Zain, the biogas power plant is slated to become operational in 2026.

Once operational, electricity generated from the plant will be sold to the national grid managed by Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) under SEDA’s Fit Scheme.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Zainurin emphasized TH Plantation’s commitment to enhancing Tabung Haji’s investment value while prioritizing environmental sustainability.

The biogas power plant is expected to generate sufficient electricity to power approximately 1,500 homes annually.

In terms of environmental impact, the plant could potentially offset about 20,000 tons of carbon emissions annually, equivalent to the emissions from 4,760 cars driven in a year.

Zainurin highlighted that the project is in line with TH Plantation’s Al-Falah 22/22 strategies, which focus on optimizing palm oil mill effluent treatment and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

He also noted that the implementation of green technology initiatives will improve the existing factory treatment system without causing environmental harm.
