Jio-bp and the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) have joined hands to develop electric vehicle charging infrastructure for more than 100 electric buses operating across Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, strengthening the region’s public transport electrification drive.
The initiative will be implemented through Jio-bp pulse, the electric mobility business of Reliance BP Mobility, a joint venture between Reliance Industries and bp. The project is expected to be rolled out over the coming months across six clusters, energetica India reported.
The partnership aims to support the growing shift towards cleaner public transportation by establishing fast-charging infrastructure designed for high-frequency electric bus operations. The charging systems are expected to reduce turnaround time and improve operational efficiency for electric bus services.
Jio-bp Chairman Sarthak Behuria said India’s transition towards sustainable mobility would depend on strong public-private partnerships and faster electrification of mass transit systems in line with the government’s clean mobility goals.
He said the collaboration with UPSRTC represents an important step towards expanding electric vehicle adoption across major public transport routes while strengthening charging infrastructure support.
Jio-bp CEO Akshay Wadhwa said the project aligns with the company’s strategy of building a scalable business-to-business EV charging network in India.
According to the company, Jio-bp currently operates more than 6,000 charging points across the country and is steadily expanding its infrastructure footprint to meet rising demand for electric mobility solutions.
The company said the partnership would further strengthen its role in commercial fleet electrification while supporting future-ready transport systems across key travel corridors.
The initiative also supports the Government of India’s larger target of reducing emissions and expanding electric public transportation across major cities and emerging urban centres.
The project adds to Jio-bp pulse’s growing portfolio of public transport and fleet electrification projects being developed across India.
