Hygenco Green Energies, a leader in affordable green hydrogen production, has announced a partnership with Denmark’s Topsoe, a global technology provider for energy transition solutions, as the licensor for its green ammonia plant in Gopalpur, Odisha.
Hygenco plans to build a large-scale green ammonia facility at the Gopalpur Industrial Park, aiming to have the plant operational by 2027, making it one of the first of its kind in the subcontinent. Earlier in 2024, Hygenco launched India’s first commercial green hydrogen plant.
Amit Bansal, Co-Founder and CEO of Hygenco, discussed the technology licensing agreement, stating, “As the world searches for innovative solutions to address urgent environmental and energy challenges, Hygenco is making substantial progress in driving the energy transition and decarbonization. We are excited to utilize Topsoe’s advanced technology to efficiently scale up green ammonia production.”
In October, Hygenco also signed an MOU with REC, a Government of India enterprise, for $280 million in debt financing for its green ammonia project development.
The ammonia technology partnership marks a critical step for the large-scale project. Hygenco will implement Topsoe’s advanced dynamic green ammonia loop technology, designed to offer flexible and efficient operations while optimizing performance.
Elena Scaltritti, Chief Commercial Officer at Topsoe, commented, “We are eager to collaborate with Hygenco on this important project, as green ammonia is essential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in energy-intensive industries and long-distance transportation. On a global scale, decarbonization must be deployed widely, and Hygenco’s project will make a significant contribution.”
Hygenco, a leader in the green hydrogen and ammonia sectors, has established strategic partnerships with various companies in India and internationally to supply green hydrogen and green ammonia.
