HDF Energy and Tunisian Ministry of Energy collaborate on developing an international green hydrogen production project

HDF Energy (Hydrogène de France), a developer of large-scale hydrogen infrastructure, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tunisia’s Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, Mrs. Fatma Thabet Chiboub, to initiate a major green hydrogen production project in Tunisia. With an initial investment of approximately 3 billion euros, the project will address both European and domestic market needs.

According to the press release, this collaboration supports Tunisia’s national strategy to lead in green hydrogen production by utilizing the country’s ample solar and wind resources.

The MoU details the creation of a significant green hydrogen project featuring 1 GW of wind energy, 500 MW of photovoltaic energy, and 800 MW of electrolysis capacity, aiming to produce up to 65,000 tonnes of hydrogen. The bulk of this green hydrogen is intended for export to Europe through the SoutH2 corridor, a hydrogen pipeline project spearheaded by European gas transmission operators.

The project will involve local investors and communities, integrating with Tunisia’s existing economic and industrial sectors, which are already established in renewable energy and gas industries.
