Haryana CM inaugurates biogas plant, announces support for cow welfare

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday inaugurated a compressed biogas plant at Kamdhenu Gaushala Seva Sadan in Pinjore and called on citizens to contribute to building a green, prosperous, and clean state, reports The Print.

Speaking as the chief guest at a programme organized at the cowshed in Panchkula district, Saini also laid the foundation stone for a cow cremation centre and a new shed. During the event, he offered his services at the gaushala and announced a grant of ₹21 lakh for its development.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to animal welfare, the chief minister said the number of registered gaushalas in the state had grown significantly under the BJP government — from 215 housing about 1,074 cattle to 650 caring for nearly four lakh cows.

He noted that thousands of cows are being looked after in sanctuaries located in Panipat, Hisar, and Panchkula. To support cattle welfare, the government has allocated ₹270 crore for fodder. In the previous financial year alone, ₹166 crore was distributed to 608 gaushalas, he added.

Saini also announced plans to allocate grazing land to gaushalas for fodder cultivation and emphasized the state’s push toward natural farming. He said the government aims to bring one lakh acres under natural farming this year and encouraged farmers to adopt sustainable agricultural practices.

BJP MLA from Kalka, Shakti Rani Sharma, also attended the event.
