Fire crews extinguish biomass boiler fire near Powys border

Fire crews were called out on Friday afternoon to tackle a fire that broke out in the flue of a biomass boiler near the Powys border, reports County Times.

Firefighters from Bishop’s Castle and Craven Arms responded to the incident at 4:24 p.m. after receiving reports of a property fire in Lydbury North.

Crews used small tools to put out the flames and removed the remaining tar from inside the boiler to prevent further risk.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service later confirmed the operation in a statement, saying: “Crews have extinguished a fire within a flue of a biomass boiler using small gear to scrape remaining tar from inside.”

The situation was brought under control quickly, with the stop message confirming no further assistance was required received by 5 p.m.
