Airbus eyes India for growth, pushes for sustainable aviation fuel

Airbus is setting its sights on India as a key market for growth, recognizing the country as one of the fastest-growing civil aviation markets in the world. At the Airbus Summit on Monday, a senior official described India as a land of growth for the company, according to PTI. This focus comes as India has now become the third-largest aviation market globally, reports Outlook Business.

As India moves towards clean energy, Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury has emphasized the importance of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to help reduce carbon emissions in the aviation sector.

“SAF is a great opportunity for India. Sustainability is a major priority here, and with India’s growing share in global aviation, the country has a bigger role to play in shaping the industry’s future,” Faury said.

He also highlighted that the shift towards sustainability marks the fourth revolution in aviation. The first revolution was taking flight, the second focused on making air travel safe, and the third made flying more affordable.

“As we move toward sustainability, we must ensure that we don’t lose the progress we have already made,” he added.

The European aircraft manufacturer is expanding its footprint in India, strengthening its supply chain and increasing its investment in engineering services, intellectual property, and metallurgy.

“We are scaling up in India, particularly in engineering services and intellectual supply, alongside metallurgical supplies,” said Christian Scherer, CEO of Airbus commercial aircraft division.

Last year, Airbus, in partnership with Tata Advanced Systems (TASL), launched India’s first final assembly line (FAL) in Gujarat. The facility is focused on producing 56 Airbus C295 aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF), marking a significant step in India’s aviation manufacturing sector.

With its growing aviation market and increasing focus on sustainability, India is becoming an integral part of Airbus’s global strategy.
