Qatar will support India for its energy needs as partner-friend: Gulf country’s Energy Minister

Qatar’s Minister of Energy and CEO of Qatar Energy, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting India’s energy diversification efforts. Speaking to ANI during the inaugural day of India Energy Week 2025 at the Yashobhoomi complex, Al-Kaabi highlighted Qatar’s readiness to partner with India on its ambitious energy transition.

“We see ourselves as partners and friends in this journey. Whatever we can do to serve the Indian market and help India, we are absolutely there to support,” said Al-Kaabi, while taking a ride on a hydrogen-powered bus at the event.

Commenting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual address during the event, Al-Kaabi expressed admiration for the Indian government’s “magnificent plan” to shape the country’s energy future. “India has a great and ambitious plan, and they’ve already accomplished so much—things many countries talk about but struggle to achieve,” he noted.

Al-Kaabi emphasized the need for a balanced energy mix, highlighting the importance of various energy sources to meet India’s growing demand. He used the example of the hydrogen bus to explain the significance of petrochemicals, pointing out how oil and gas play a critical role in producing everyday materials such as bus components, clothing, and consumer products. “When people talk about renewables, they’re crucial for generating electricity. But to manufacture these materials, we still need oil and gas,” he said.

The minister also touched on the importance of coal for India’s energy security, suggesting that the country should utilize its own resources to fuel growth. “You need a combination of resources—coal, gas, oil, solar, wind— to ensure a reliable energy supply and meet India’s ambitious economic goals,” Al-Kaabi stated.

India Energy Week 2025, the third edition of the event, is set to attract global participation from energy ministers, CEOs, and industry leaders. Previous editions in Bengaluru and Goa helped establish the event as a key fixture in the global energy calendar.

In his address, Prime Minister Modi reiterated the importance of the event, stressing that participants are integral to India’s broader energy ambitions.
