TruAlt Bioenergy to set up one of world’s largest SAF plants In India

India is set to become home to one of the world’s largest sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) plants, according to Vijay Nirani, Founder and Managing Director of TruAlt Bioenergy, reported Times Now. Speaking at the 10th edition of the Times Network India Economic Conclave, Nirani highlighted that around 65% of airline industry emissions stem from fuel consumption. He emphasized that since battery-powered planes and green hydrogen are not yet viable, biofuels are the only feasible solution to reduce aviation emissions.

The upcoming TruAlt sustainable aviation fuel plant will utilize agricultural and biomass waste to produce biofuel for the aviation industry. Nirani noted that while India has an abundance of these resources, the country still imports 70-80% of the gas it consumes for energy needs. The new plant aims to reduce this dependency and promote the use of locally sourced biofuels.

Besides the SAF plant, TruAlt is also gearing up to establish 17 to 18 compressed biogas plants across India. Nirani credited the Indian government’s National Biofuel Policy for creating scope for companies like TruAlt to tap into the huge biofuel resources of the nation. According to him, this policy allows the creation of a sustainable lifestyle for Indian farmers and helps the nation achieve energy self-sufficiency.
