Uttar Pradesh: Company keen to set up sugar mill and ethanol project in Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur is rapidly emerging as an attractive destination for businesses looking to tap into new opportunities. During the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) Foundation Day celebrations, Manish Agarwal of Bareilly-based Superior Industries expressed his interest in setting up a sugar mill and ethanol plant in the region. Agarwal met with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and engaged with GIDA officials and the Industrial Development Department to discuss the proposal.

Agarwal, who is already involved in the distillery business, emphasized the significant potential for such a plant in Purvanchal. He noted that Gorakhpur and its neighboring districts produce substantial amounts of sugarcane, maize, and paddy, all of which are essential raw materials for ethanol production.

He highlighted the growing importance of ethanol, particularly as its use as an alternative fuel continues to increase. Agarwal mentioned that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath showed a keen interest in the project, inviting him to Lucknow for further discussions. He also praised the positive and supportive stance of government officials, which gave him greater confidence in moving forward with the project.

A new sugar mill and ethanol plant in the region would greatly benefit local farmers. Currently, Gorakhpur has just one operational sugar mill in Pipraich, while mills in Sardar Nagar and Dhuriapar remain closed. A new plant would not only boost ethanol production but also provide a steady market for local farmers’ crops.

The event, organized by the Invest UP Department, attracted several entrepreneurs exploring investment opportunities in Gorakhpur. Agarwal noted that this was not his first visit to the city and that he had previously assessed the feasibility of setting up a factory in the area. “The future of ethanol looks promising, and Gorakhpur has the resources to be a key player in this sector,” he concluded.
