Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) announced on Tuesday that it has secured a significant contract from NTPC Limited to supply the Main Plant Package for the Telangana Stage-II Supercritical Thermal Power Plant, which is planned to have a capacity of 3×800 megawatts (MW).
Under the contract, BHEL will handle the entire scope of work, including design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, commissioning, and civil construction of the plant.
In a statement, BHEL confirmed, “Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has been awarded a major contract from NTPC Ltd. for the establishment of the Main Plant Package for the 3×800 MW Telangana Stage-II supercritical thermal power plant.”
Work on the project has already begun, with NTPC issuing a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) to BHEL, allowing the company to start the basic engineering phase for the Main Plant Package of this high-capacity power plant.
BHEL has been a key player in NTPC’s infrastructure development, having contributed to over 57 percent of the company’s thermal power units across India.
As India’s leading manufacturer of power equipment, BHEL has installed more than 168,000 MW of utility power capacity across the country. The company’s involvement in this project is in line with its commitment to enhancing India’s energy security and supporting the government’s goal of achieving self-reliance in the power sector.
BHEL added, “The company continues to play a pivotal role in strengthening India’s energy security and advancing the vision of self-reliance in the power sector.”
