Brazil’s Ambassador to India, Kenneth Felix Haczynski da Nobrega, highlighted the progress made in transforming the Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA) into a new international organization. Speaking on the GBA, he noted, “We have made strides in creating the Global Biofuels Alliance, which offers the international community, especially developing countries, an alternative path toward energy transition.”
The GBA is a multi-stakeholder initiative involving governments, international organizations, and industries. It was launched by India during its G20 Presidency to unite the world’s leading biofuel producers and consumers in an effort to accelerate the development and adoption of biofuels. The initiative aims to position biofuels as a vital component of the global energy transition, while also contributing to job creation and economic growth.
Ambassador Nobrega made these comments during a speech in New Delhi on the occasion of Brazil’s National Day.
The GBA was officially launched on September 9, 2023, under India’s G20 Presidency. The launch event was attended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders from eight other countries, including Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Italy, Mauritius, Singapore, the UAE, and the United States.
The initiative seeks to promote the global use of biofuels by addressing critical challenges, such as the availability of feedstock, the creation of supportive policy frameworks, and enhancing the biomass supply chain.
In his speech, Nobrega also emphasized the growing strength of Brazil-India relations, noting that the two countries have forged stronger ties based on shared values, perceptions, and interests. He said, “In 2024, Brazil-India relations have become even stronger. Traditional areas of cooperation have expanded, and this shift reflects the deepening of our longstanding friendship. In today’s complex global landscape, securing paths to socioeconomic development requires new approaches, economic complementarities, and, most importantly, mutual trust.”
The Ambassador further emphasized that the strong bilateral ties between the two nations enabled a smooth transition between the Indian and Brazilian G20 presidencies, calling it an “exemplary transition.”
Nobrega also pointed out that the Brazil-India partnership had deepened in key areas like energy and food security. He said, “In 2024, our relations have strengthened beyond traditional cooperation in multilateral forums. Our bilateral ties are now deeper, especially in sectors like energy and food security—critical to shaping our future together. Over the course of the year, more than 40 Brazilian missions, both official and business-related, have visited India.”
The Ambassador also highlighted the significant achievements under the Brazilian G20 presidency, including the launch of two important task forces—one focused on combating hunger and poverty, and the other on addressing climate change.
