New Delhi: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has approved a package of measures to improve civic infrastructure and services, including a one-time waiver of late payment surcharge on old water dues of Dhobi Ghats and a 50 per cent concession in parking charges for electric vehicles, PTI reported.
The decisions were taken at an NDMC meeting chaired by Delhi Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh. He said the measures were aimed at making New Delhi cleaner, better managed and more citizen-centric, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of developing the capital as a modern and world-class city.
As part of the relief for Dhobi Ghats, the council approved a one-time waiver of the late payment surcharge on outstanding water bills. The NDMC said water dues from Dhobi Ghats stood at around Rs 63.52 crore as of April 2026.
The council also scrapped the earlier 2.5-times multiplication factor used to calculate water charges for Dhobi Ghats. The sewerage charge will continue to be levied at 60 per cent of the water consumption charge.
To encourage electric mobility, the council formalised a 50 per cent concession in parking charges for electric vehicles at all parking facilities operated by the NDMC.
The council also approved an administrative sanction of Rs 18.26 crore for installing new street lights at identified dark spots. It cleared a proposal to replace seven non-functional escalators in Connaught Place subways at an estimated cost of Rs 6.09 crore and approved the introduction of smart electricity metering.
In the healthcare sector, the council gave in-principle approval for setting up a 50-bed AYUSH hospital and research centre in Sarojini Nagar at an estimated cost of Rs 55 crore. The facility will be developed jointly by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the NDMC.
Other measures approved by the council include strengthening water and sewerage infrastructure, procuring modern machines for sewer cleaning and introducing new bye-laws for solid waste management, PTI stated.
