UP, Japan deepen cooperation in green hydrogen and clean energy

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh and Japan have agreed to strengthen cooperation in green hydrogen and other clean-energy technologies, with UPNEDA and a Japanese delegation exchanging a memorandum of understanding on Friday to explore technology partnerships, skill development and investment opportunities, The Times of India reported.

Energy Minister AK Sharma welcomed Yamanashi Governor Kotaro Nagasaki at the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), where the two sides discussed expanding cooperation in green hydrogen, renewable energy and clean technologies.

The discussions also focused on developing projects that can attract investment and support the state’s shift towards cleaner sources of energy.

The agreement provides a framework for cooperation in clean-energy technologies, research and new projects. It is also expected to help Uttar Pradesh benefit from Japanese technology and the innovation ecosystem in Yamanashi.

The partnership comes as Uttar Pradesh seeks to expand its clean-energy sector through research, skills development and stronger links between industry and educational institutions.

Two Centres of Excellence have already been established at IIT Kanpur and IIT-BHU to support research, develop skilled professionals and facilitate the transfer of technology.

Sharma said the partnership with Japan would support Uttar Pradesh’s transition to cleaner energy while creating opportunities for Japanese companies and technologies to invest and expand in the state.
