Rotterdam: Evos Rotterdam has formally launched construction of its methanol and ethanol expansion project at the Port of Rotterdam following a ground-breaking ceremony held on June 25, marking the start of a major investment to expand terminal infrastructure and storage capacity.
The development includes the construction of five new storage tanks with a combined gross capacity of 67,500 cubic metres, along with a new pump station and a new jetty. The project is being developed in cooperation with the Port of Rotterdam, Manifold Times reported.
Once completed and operational in early 2028, the expansion is expected to increase Evos Rotterdam’s ability to handle methanol and ethanol volumes for industrial customers while supporting growth in cleaner and lower-carbon marine fuel and bunkering markets.
Daan Vos, Chief Executive Officer of Evos, said the project’s construction phase follows extensive collaboration, technical planning and long-term commitment among stakeholders.
He acknowledged the support of the Port of Rotterdam, contractors and project partners involved in advancing the development to the construction stage.
According to Vos, the expansion will strengthen Rotterdam’s role as a logistics hub for methanol and ethanol, including lower-carbon methanol, while providing additional infrastructure to meet changing market requirements.
Christiaan Kop, Managing Director of Evos Rotterdam, described the ceremony as the official beginning of a significant infrastructure project and thanked participants and project teams involved in preparing and launching the development.
He said the project team demonstrated the level of coordination and professionalism required to move the expansion into the construction phase.
The investment is expected to enhance terminal capabilities at the Port of Rotterdam and support growing demand for alternative fuel supply chains and industrial liquid storage in the coming years.
