Green hydrogen push drives Turn2X’s E-methane expansion plan in Spain

In a move centred on green hydrogen-based fuel production, Turn2X has partnered with AGR Biogas to explore setting up new e-methane plants in Spain, aiming to use shared resources and cut costs, H2-View reported.

Under the agreement, Turn2X will study the feasibility of building its plants alongside AGR Biogas facilities in Andalusia and Extremadura. The plan focuses on using carbon dioxide generated during biomethane production and integrating infrastructure.

AGR Biogas is expected to supply biogenic carbon dioxide, while waste heat from e-methane production will be used in its operations. Both companies are also looking at sharing grid connections and gas injection points.

The firms said the collaboration could lower operating costs for AGR Biogas and reduce project costs for Turn2X, while also helping reduce reliance on imported gas.

AGR Biogas CEO David Piñero said the partnership would help make better use of carbon dioxide produced at its facilities.

Turn2X already operates an e-methane plant in Miajadas, where green hydrogen is produced using a 1 MW electrolyser and combined with carbon dioxide to create e-methane.

E-methane has the same properties as natural gas and can be used in existing infrastructure. In 2025, Turn2X reported what it described as Europe’s first cross-border delivery of e-methane to a German glassmaker under the EU’s mass-balancing system.

The companies have not yet disclosed the expected capacity of the proposed projects.
