Delhi: Honeywell said SAF One Energy Management Limited will be producing sustainable aviation fuel using its UOP Ecofining process technology, marking a key step in SAF One’s plans to expand cleaner fuel production worldwide, including in India, reports SAF One.
Tata Projects Limited, the engineering and construction arm of the Tata Group, has been named the engineering, procurement and construction partner for the project. Honeywell and Tata Projects will work together to deliver a combined solution designed to meet the specific needs of SAF One’s facilities.
Honeywell’s Ecofining technology, developed along with Italy-based energy company Eni, S.p.A converts waste fats, oils and greases into renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel. The process is designed to lower overall project costs while making use of widely available waste materials.
The partnership supports SAF One’s goal of developing multiple sustainable aviation fuel plants across different regions. SAF One plans to turn used cooking oil and other waste oils into aviation fuel, using Honeywell’s technology, helping airlines cut emissions over the full life cycle of fuel use and move closer to cleaner operations.
Rajesh Gattupalli, president of Honeywell UOP, said the Ecofining technology allows producers to use a wider range of raw materials and adjust more easily to changes in supply and market conditions. He said Honeywell’s experience in fuel processing is aimed at making sustainable aviation fuel production more affordable and scalable, and the project with SAF One and Tata Projects reflects the company’s strong position in this area.
Rajiv Menon, president and chief operating officer for the energy and industrial business at Tata Projects, said the collaboration shows the importance of early planning and careful execution in delivering large-scale sustainable fuel projects. He said the partnership combines advanced technology with efficient construction and long-term operational performance.
Deepak Munganahalli, SAF One cofounder and chief executive officer, said the company is pleased to work with Honeywell and Tata Projects, noting that their technical and commercial experience supports SAF One’s approach of developing repeatable plant designs across its project pipeline. He said the collaboration strengthens the company’s ability to offer long-term solutions for reducing emissions.
Honeywell and Tata Projects are jointly refining the project design to manage costs, shorten delivery schedules and align with SAF One’s global expansion plans. The companies said the collaboration supports climate goals in India and internationally, while reinforcing Honeywell’s role in developing sustainable aviation fuel technologies for global markets.
