Oji Holdings completes acquisition of Austria-based biorefinery firm AustroCel

Oji Holdings Corporation has completed the acquisition of all shares of AustroCel Hallein GmbH, an Austria-based company, on January 14, 2026, said the Company in its press release.

AustroCel is one of the major biorefinery companies in Europe. It produces dissolving wood pulp, advanced biofuels and lignin-based hydrogel products by using leftover materials generated during pulp production. The company has made major investments in recent years, leading to a strong and profitable business that customers recognise for its innovative approach to biorefining.

Oji Holdings said the acquisition will speed up changes in its business structure by placing forest-based biomass operations at the centre of the Oji Group’s future growth. This direction was outlined in the group’s Medium-Term Management Plan 2027, announced in May 2025.

Through the deal, Oji aims to strengthen its focus on sustainable manufacturing by expanding the use of plant-based materials instead of fossil-based resources. The company said this approach is expected to support the development of next-generation industrial systems and help build a more sustainable production model for the future.
