Foxtron launches Bria electric car, targets global markets

Taiwan’s Foxtron Vehicle Technologies, a joint venture between Foxconn and Yulon Motor, on Thursday introduced a new electric vehicle named Bria, marking a key step in the company’s expansion plans, reports The Economic Times.

Foxtron said the Bria will be offered in different versions, priced between about $28,600 and $36,540. The company said the model is the first electric vehicle made in Taiwan that is intended for export to international markets.

The launch follows Foxtron’s recent announcement that it will acquire Yulon Motor’s Luxgen passenger car brand for T$787.6 million, or about $24.95 million. Under this arrangement, Foxtron will also roll out its Model B electric vehicle in Taiwan under the Bria brand.

As part of the deal, Foxtron will take full ownership of Luxgen, including its five sales subsidiaries, retail outlets and employees. The company said this will allow it to take direct control of operations and strengthen Taiwan’s electric vehicle ecosystem, covering vehicle development, sales and after-sales services.

Foxconn, the world’s largest contract manufacturer of iPhones, holds a 45.6 per cent stake in Foxtron, while Taiwanese automaker Yulon owns 43.8 per cent.

Foxtron operates on a contract-based design and manufacturing model, producing electric vehicles for different car brands as it seeks to build a stronger presence in the global EV market.
