Indonesia plans major biodiesel rollout in 2026 to cut diesel imports

Jakarta: Indonesia plans to distribute about 15.6 billion litres of biodiesel in 2026, a move the government says could reduce fossil diesel imports by around Rp 139 trillion ($8.3 billion), according to the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, reports Jakartaglobe.id.

The plan is part of the government’s mandatory biodiesel programme, under which diesel supplied through government channels must include a higher share of biofuel. This year, Indonesia is implementing the B40 policy, which requires a 40 per cent biofuel blend, up from 35 per cent last year. Authorities are aiming to further increase the blend to 50 per cent under the planned B50 policy starting in the second half of 2026.

Renewable Energy Director General Eniya Listyani said the biodiesel programme for 2026 will be carried out through cooperation between dozens of fuel processors and biofuel producers appointed by the government.
