Air France KLM Martinair Cargo and DHL renew partnership to boost sustainable aviation fuel use through 2027

Air France KLM Martinair Cargo and DHL Global Forwarding have extended their strategic alliance to accelerate air freight decarbonisation, signing a new three-year framework agreement covering 2025 to 2027, reports Stat Trade Times.

The partnership aims to cut 35,000 tonnes of CO2-equivalent in 2025, marking the largest annual Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) collaboration Air France KLM Martinair Cargo has undertaken to date. Additional SAF volumes and emissions-reduction targets for 2026 and 2027 will be agreed upon as the partnership advances.

The renewed contract follows the previous three-year agreement, under which DHL achieved a reduction of 77,595 tonnes of CO2-equivalent between 2022 and 2024. That effort also helped customers meet science-based emissions-reduction goals.

Since 2020, Air France KLM Martinair Cargo has focused on developing SAF programmes tailored to customers, while DHL has incorporated SAF into its GoGreen Plus service as part of its climate strategy. The collaboration reflects shared expertise and a joint commitment to scaling low-carbon fuels.

Both companies emphasized that extending the partnership highlights the importance of long-term cooperation in accelerating the aviation sector’s transition to lower-carbon operations.

GertJan Roelands, SVP Commercial at Air France KLM Martinair Cargo, said the agreement underscores ambition, mutual trust, and dedication to advancing SAF across the air freight value chain.

Henk Venema, EVP Global Airfreight at DHL Global Forwarding, said the framework demonstrates effective collaboration in decarbonisation and noted that predictability, scalability and transparency are crucial for sustainable aviation fuels to deliver meaningful impact.
