Maruti Suzuki plans wide EV line-up, 1 lakh charging stations by 2030

Maruti Suzuki India has announced plans to launch a full range of electric vehicles across body styles and build one of the country’s largest charging networks as it sets its sights on leadership in the rapidly expanding EV market. The company will introduce its first electric model, the e Vitara, in 2026, and aims to deploy over 1 lakh charging stations by 2030 through partnerships with its dealer network and charge point operators, reports The Economic Times.

“Aligned with Suzuki Motor Corporation’s vision, we will be launching many more electric vehicles across body types and segments in the coming years,” Maruti Suzuki India MD and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said at an event on Tuesday.

Takeuchi said the company is entering the EV segment with complete ecosystem readiness, covering charging infrastructure and customer support. He added that the e Vitara has been engineered to reduce range anxiety and address major ownership concerns.

Maruti Suzuki has already installed more than 2,000 exclusive charging points across 1,100-plus cities, including the top 100 EV markets and key inter-city routes to support seamless long-distance travel. The company is also working with 13 charge point operators and aggregators to expand access to public charging stations nationwide.

Takeuchi said the carmaker has invested ₹250 crore in developing charging infrastructure through its dealer network and in creating its EV app, e for me, which helps customers locate and use charging points.

To support its EV ambitions, Maruti Suzuki also plans to build a 1.5 lakh-strong EV-ready workforce.

The announcements came on the same day the company received a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating for the e Vitara — the first electric SUV in India to receive this certification. The rating strengthens the company’s confidence as it prepares to enter the EV market with its first battery-electric vehicle and expand aggressively through the decade.

Maruti Suzuki said its priority now is to grow the overall EV market in India and help customers adopt electric mobility with confidence.
